This basic set of metadata fields is branded as IPTC Core, in 2008 a second set branded as IPTC Extension was developed. Embedded IIM image information is often referred to as an “IPTC header”. The IPTC defined a set of metadata properties that can be applied to images, part of a broader standard developed in the early 1990s and known as the IPTC Information Interchange Model (IIM). The International Press Telecommunications Council (IPTC) is based in London and is a consortium of the world’s major news agencies, other news providers and news industry vendors and acts as the global standards body of the news media.
It’s a simple tool that can add a whole new level of information to your images in a systematic way that would otherwise cost you hours and hours of work.īefore I click ingest I open up the IPTC Stationary Pad. You can insert a variable into an input field by simply clicking onto the field and then double-clicking the variable on the list that you want to insert into this text field. for example your website URLĪnywhere in Photo Mechanic, you can open the Variable window to show a list of all available variables. Variables are a set of data that Photo Mechanic can fetch from one location and automatically insert into any other location. In this test Photo Mechanic crushes both Lightroom and Mylio.The most powerful (and probably underused) feature of Photo Mechanic is Variables.

So to be fair I ran Import tests using all three software tools, Mylio, Lightroom and Photo Mechanic. Importing for many people is more important than the speed of looking through the images. One of the speed tests I didn’t do in the original post above was to check the speed of Importing images. We need to keep them in the game so we all have additional choices. Please, go over to Mylio and give them a look. I can’t say enough about these guys and gals giving us a new way of keeping track of our precious memories. It gives you the option to break your photos into specific groups that make seeing your memories even easier and more efficient. Be sure to take a look at the Calendar Events. Although I’m a huge fan of Mylio’s speed, the latest release version 1.8 added several additional features. For most that would include a computer, laptop, or desktop as well as a tablet and phone-synched across all devices. Not only is it free, but you can have your pictures on up to three devices. For those of you who shoot only JPEGs and have less than 25,000 photos, Mylio is FREE. Take a look at this crazy little program that just keeps getting better and better. The plus side of purchasing PM was the opportunity to compare it to Mylio. Unfortunately, I was unable to try PM due to having already gone that route for other reasons and after purchasing it, found PM’s captioning and keywording has huge issues itself. Looking for the answer for easier captioning and keywording, I recently purchased what has always been considered the speed champion, Photo Mechanic. I’ve been using Mylio for almost a year now, and though it’s superb at getting through my images like nothing else I’ve ever used, its one downside is captioning and keywording.
